The Conservatory at The Albannach

Breakfast

You’ve experienced a plethora of fry-ups on your tour around the Highlands. So we like to serve something just a wee bit different - the food that we love to eat in the mornings.

The sourdough bread is the basis of breakfast, made lovingly (and slowly), it’s beautiful toasted, spread thickly with salted butter and topped with eggs.

We buy local ingredients where possible, supporting Highland dairies and smokehouses and we grow most of our greens and some soft fruits in the Albannach kitchen garden.

Whether you’re going to be hiking or kicking back for the day, we think you’re in for a GOOD morning!

Try our freshly brewed Kombucha to begin.

Choose from a selection of small bowls, including our delicious overnight-oats, made with Connage Highland dairy yoghurt and topped with fruit. Or our granola which is regularly baked in small batches, full of honey, dried fruits and nuts. On a cooler morning, a hot bowl of porridge made with Scottish oats and topped with plump Palestinian dates, toasted almonds and honey, is *chefs kiss* perfection!

Hot from the kitchen: free range eggs, cooked how you like them and served on freshly baked, slow fermented sourdough. There’s the option of salmon benedict or omelette with Highland cheese and home grown greens.

Go vegan with sourdough topped with a zingy mix of avocado, homegrown tomatoes and spring onions, drenched in single origin extra virgin olive oil and lime juice, finished with spiced, roasted seeds.

Spice your morning up with our Shakshuka, eggs poached in a zingy, saffron infused tomato and pepper sauce. Or go native with a bowl of creamy, hot porridge, topped with plumptious Palestinian dates, chopped nuts, seeds, and honey.

Of course, the ‘Highland Roast’ coffee from The Inverness Coffee Roasting Company and ‘Scottish breakfast tea’ from The West Highland Tea Company is always available in the mornings!

Delilah’s in Lochinver

Eating out in lochinver

With so much great local produce (langoustine, lobsters, venison and cheeses) it’s little wonder we have a thriving dining scene in Lochinver and the surrounding area. Restaurants are small and get very busy during the season, so fair warning, book in advance of your visit!

  • Delilah’s is the latest offering in the village, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients used in their Scottish inspired menu.

  • Peets Restaurant close to the harbour in the village is a good bet for a hearty supper.

  • Lochinver Larder or as we call it The Amazing Pie Shop, is worth a visit from everyone! Pies so good they’ve had to start doing them by mail order too.

  • Inver Lodge on the other side of the loch has a restaurant with views over the water.

  • An Cala Café, in Lochinver offers proper home cooked food several days a week. It’s popular with locals and visitors.

  • It’s never not a good time for a fish and chips on the beach. Luckily we have beaches and TWO fish and chips take-out spots. Bev’s Chippy at the Achmelvich camp site and Catch Toll at Clachtoll beach.

  • For a serene Lochside dining experience Kylesku hotel has an extensive menu covering seafood and highland game.

Further afield but definitely reachable for an evening meal, you have The Seafood Shack in Ullapool with a changing menu reflecting the days catch. Definitely one for the foodies.

In Ullapool you’ll also find The Ceilidh Place, a funky little café/bar/restaurant often with live music to boot.

For a real showcase of Scottish ingredients and top-notch technique, The Dipping Lugger, in Ullapool, have a seasonally changing tasting menu.
